4 tips to planning the perfect UK road trip

If you’re looking to plan a trip this year, or you’re already looking ahead to next year, then why not think about road tripping around the UK? There are so many things that you can see when you go to England, to Scotland and to Wales, and if you decide to go over on the boat to Ireland, that’s great, but if not, there are still plenty of things to see in England itself. The best part about it being such a small place is that you can go and see so many places in a short amount of time. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how you can plan your UK road trip.

Decide how you’re going to travel

It’s so important that you decide in advance how you plan to travel around. One of the best things about the UK is its public transport system because there are trains that can take you to every corner of the island. But you could also look at motorhome hire and travel and sleep wherever you are.If you know how you’re going to travel, you’re going to be able to map out your route so much simpler. It’s important that you start looking at how you plan to get places because of the cost. Totalling up how much petrol you might need or how many train tickets you might need will help you to manage your budget.

Think about when to visit

You know that the UK has got temperamental weather. Most people like to road trip around the UK in the summer months because at least they may get some warm weather even if it isn’t dry. Always expect rain when you’re in the UK because it’s one of the wettest places that you could ever visit. If you don’t expect the rain, you’re not going to be prepared for it. Visiting the UK’s wonderful at any time of the year, but if you’re going around in a motorhome, try to avoid winter purely because you will freeze to death in your motorhome while you’re there.

Decide how much you have to spend

Your budget may or may not include your travel options, but once you think about what you want to see, you can start looking at how much things will cost. One of the best things about the UK is that there are many different places that are actually free to visit, especially if you’re looking at national heritage centres. Some of the national parks, some of the museums, and even the galleries are free to visit, so you can get away with not having to pay a lot if you’re planning on spending a lot of time immersed in culture and history.

Buy your tickets for things in advance

Whatever you plan to do and see, buy as many things as you can in advance. If you know when you’re going to be visiting, you’re going to be able to tailor your visit to the market, to stalls, and to events in different galleries. Don’t be afraid to have fun with it, because while you’re here, you may as well make the most of your trip.Ā
