6 Unconventional Ways to Cut the Price of Your Adventures and Travels

Does surging prices meekly suggest you must let go of your travel aspirations? Definitely not! Definitely not! With out-of-the-box thinking and some unconventional tricks, you can still fulfil your desire to see new places without digging into the little nest egg you’ve been working on. Here are some of the unconventional ways you can keep the adventure alive.

1. Travel Off the Beaten Path

Everybody goes to the same hotspots, and you know what? That is what makes them so expensive! You can save in a big way by not going to the ordinary tourist traps and heading in some other direction. Think about going to places like Georgia – the country, not the state of Montenegro, or even Bolivia. These countries have great experiences for a portion of what it would cost to go to France or Italy. Plus, you won’t have to deal with all the crowds; you will find something truly unique.

2. Barter Your Skills For Your Accommodation

Be a yoga instructor, photographer, or even a handyman – places exist that will let you stay for free if you help them out. It’s not as strange as that sounds, really. Websites like Workaway or HelpX will have numerous postings from hosts around the globe looking for travellers to lend a hand. You may be painting murals, tending gardens, or even helping with the social media for small hotels. It’s a win-win.

3. Embrace Slow Travel

Now, let’s get to the speed of travel. Ever feel stressed because of this constant hopping from one place to another? Well, slow down! Besides the fact that with slow travelling you can really enjoy the place you will visit, it also saves money. The longer you stay in a particular place, the more decent deals you get. Weekly or monthly rental rates are much cheaper than nightly ones, and finally, transport costs will be cut down since you are not constantly on the go. It’s deeper, richer-you’re living like a local for a bit.

4. Travel on Your Terms

For those travelling to areas for more extended periods of time (2+ months), with very poor or very expensive options of public transportation, the maths often works out to be cheaper by buying a secondhand vehicle. Many travellers will look for used cars for sale to purchase for longer trips and resell it later on. This will afford you the free will to visit some off-the-beaten-path destinations, save money on pricey rental fees, and give you full control over your travel schedule.

5. Take Advantage of Loyalty Programs and Local Offerings

If you’re not joining every loyalty program in existence, what’s holding you back? It’s airline miles, hotel points, and even restaurant rewards-they all add up a lot more quickly than you might think. And don’t look past all of those local discounts. So many places offer special rates for long-term visitors; you’d be surprised how relatively easy it often is to qualify. All you need to do is ask around and find out what is available. You literally have nothing to lose and plenty to save.

6. Travel with a Purpose – Volunteering/Eco-Tourism

Why travel as just a tourist when you can travel with a purpose? Volunteering can be a life-changing experience, and guess what? It can also save you money. Many programs will give you free housing and meals in exchange for help. You will see the world, make a difference, and very often spend a lot less teaching English in rural schools or on conservation projects. Another route could be eco-tourism: you’re out there immersed in sustainable projects while keeping costs low.

We all feel the pinch, but that doesn’t mean your travel days are over. Time to get creative, take it slow, and find some new paths in exploring this world. There’s no need to spend too much money to have big adventures. It could be bartering for accommodations or embracing slow travel- the key is to adapt and keep that sense of adventure alive.
