Review: I really enjoyed the first book and I did like this one as well. I must admit that I thought the first book was better, but it was still an enjoyable sequel.
I think the author did a very good job of including the Greek mythology in this book, whilst also creating something new and more modern. I really did like the story idea behind this book.
However, the book definitely felt different to the first one. It was so annoying because I could understand why, for example, some of the character’s personalities had changed. Like it was needed for the storyline to continue, but it was so frustrating that this was something that happened to the main characters.
I mean what was up with Kate? In the first book, she was this sassy, confident and totally independent (yet young – hello, she’s only 18) woman. In this book, she’s having to constantly be reassured that Henry loved her. It wasn’t even a bit of jealousy, it was full on hating on any girl that got too close to him. I mean, it was only really his ex-wife, but it just made the story lack substance.
I still read the book, though, and I still like the idea behind it.
I love the cover (all the covers for this trilogy are gorgeous and memorable).
I did also quite like the ending, even though it left me on a cliffhanger. I say cliffhanger because I straight away bought the third book and read that one pretty quickly as well. So well done, on writing an ending which leads the reader wanting more. It certainly kept my interest. Even if I was getting annoyed with the characters.
The first book is most definitely the best. But I do feel that if you truly loved the first book, you will undoubtedly read the next two because there’s just something about finishing a book series that you loved at the start.
It’s an incredibly easy read, aimed more at young adults (mainly teenagers I guess), but if you want a quick and well thought out book series, then this is the one for you. The first is great, the second is good and we’ll see how I find the third.
You should definitely give this book a go.
