Review: A timeless Greek myth brought to modern times with a unique slant that titillates the heart – what’s not to love about that?
I really enjoyed the story idea that Meg Cabot came up with for this book, it’s something which really interests me, so naturally I really enjoyed reading it. And YET Cabot manages to only loosely base this story on the Greek myth and creates an entirely new and different story.
It did at some points feel as though the story was beginning to become a little bit too long. I also had a bit of an issue with the writing style at the very start of the book, but I soon got used to it so it didn’t bug me that much.
My last issue with this book is how the love interest is named John. Any people who are called John in real life please don’t get offended by this. It’s just that John didn’t really seem to fit with his character. Particularly, as the girl is called Pierce – the two names seem like they come from two different places, but maybe that’s why Cabot did it because John is from the underworld and Pierce is not – they come from two different places.
Anyway, those are the only real faults I could find with this book and saying that I did really like reading it. I’m fairly certainly that I read this in one sitting because I just wanted to know what the ending was going to be and how it would play out.
There wasn’t as much romance as I expected but there sure was chemistry between John and Pierce.
It is easy to see why Cabot made this into a trilogy because this first book is only a taste of what is to come and I quite like that. It only scratches the surface which for some people may not be that great, but if you want a book trilogy to completely engross yourself in than this is it.
