About: Ally Darling (Anna Faris) is realising she’s a little lost in life. Her latest romance has just fizzled out, and she’s just been fired from her marketing job. Then she reads an eye-opening magazine article that warns that 96 percent of women who’ve been with 20 or more lovers are unlikely to find a husband. Determined to turn her life around and prove the article wrong, Ally embarks on a mission to find the perfect mate from among her numerous ex-boyfriends.
Review: This is such a fun film.
There are so many great actors – there’s Chris Evans (the unbelievably hot next door neighbour/friend/love interest), Anna Faris (who is brilliant in these kinds of roles, I mean if you loved her in ‘The House Bunny’, then you’ll love her in this).
You’ve got Martin Freeman, who plays the British ex-boyfriend. He worked brilliantly, even though his part was small, but it led to the funny scene where Ally’s ‘British’ accent slips. There’s Chris Pratt, who plays disgusting Donald (although not so disgusting by the end) and his part is hilarious. You really need to watch the film to understand why.
Right, so the reasons why I didn’t give it 5 stars are quite simple. It’s the typical love story, you know how it’s going to play out – but that does not mean that this is a bad film, in fact, I think it’s quite good.
However, you know instantly how this film is going to play out, but the playing out is the whole fun.
I was really surprised by the amount of negativity that surrounded this film as I really did enjoy it. It’s a film that’s not meant to be taken seriously – it’s the perfect film to watch when you don’t want to think.
Here’s just a quote from the film to make you appreciate just how great it is: “I’m happiest when I’m myself, and I’m myself when I’m with you,” she tells her eventual beau. That’s a good lesson for us all, really. When entering into what will hopefully be a forever relationship, it’s absolutely necessary. Also, isn’t that such a sweet message? I know that the underlying plot story for this film is that it is about a woman who has slept with 20 guys and will never be married, but really it’s about that even when something tells you no, you will still be able to find the one person who you are meant to end up with.
This really is the perfect film to watch because its light, funny and just adorable. You’ll definietely love it if you just want an easy film to watch.
