About: Breaking up with Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) leaves Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger) over 40 and single again. Feeling that she has everything under control, Jones decides to focus on her career as a top news producer. Suddenly, her love life comes back from the dead when she meets a dashing and handsome American named Jack (Patrick Dempsey). Things couldn’t be better until Bridget discovers that she is pregnant. Now, the befuddled mom-to-be must figure out if the proud papa is Mark or Jack.
Review: If you’re a fan of the Bridget Jones’s franchise then you will love this film. It feels absolutely brilliant to have Bridget back.
I went to go see this at the cinema on Saturday night with my sister and I think there were only like 30 seats left by the time we got there, and there were plenty of people still queuing up behind us.
Right from the very start, everyone was laughing and by the end of it, I was laughing so hard that I was crying. I haven’t enjoyed a film this much in such a long time – you know a film’s good when it has you actually laughing out loud for a long period of time.
I would just like to say now though that this review may contain spoilers below so read with caution please – I don’t want to ruin this film for you, as you really should go and see it because I think it’s one of the best films so far this year.
To be fair, I feel like you could still watch this film, even if you haven’t seen the first two. I also kind of preferred how Renée Zellweger didn’t put on any weight for the film, because at least the film isn’t trying to show that ‘overweight’ people have difficulty finding love. Which although it isn’t an actually problem, some people might see it that way.
This film is different to the first two because instead of Bridget having to decide between the good and the bad guy – the two guys in this film are both good. Although admittedly, the character of Jack did at times feel like he was rather rude and selfish. But so did Mark because in some scenes he appeared rather cold and unsmiling.
Although I must admit that I did find the two of them rather charming and handsome, so I’m not complaining.
I really did enjoy this film and my only complaint would be that we don’t see much of the orginial gang – they are there, but they are too busy raising a family. I did LOVE the introduction of Bridget’s new friend from work. The scene where she is talking to Bridget and also hosting the news was brilliant, I really did find that scene extremely funny.
The ending is expected, no suprises there for who she ends up with and of course the father of the child is obvious as well, since this is a film that wants to keep everyone happy.
I mean I was happy with who she ended up with and I think that if it had been the other one, then I don’t think people would have been happy. So the film people made the right choice for that – besides when it’s a romance film, that’s meant to have a happy ending how are they expected to have a surprise at the end?
All in all though, this film is so worth your time.
